Matthew Chandler Fox[1] (born July 14, 1966)[2] is an American actor. He is known for his roles as Charlie Salinger on Party of Five (1994–2000) and Jack Shephard on the drama series Lost (2004–2010), the latter of which earned him Golden Globe Award and Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Fox has also performed in eleven feature films, including We Are Marshall (2006), Vantage Point (2008), Alex Cross (2012), Emperor (2012) and Bone Tomahawk (2015).
Early life
[edit]Fox was born in Abington, Pennsylvania,[1] the son of Loretta B. (née Eagono) and Francis G. Fox. He has two brothers, Francis, Jr. (b. 1961) and Bayard (b. 1969). As Fox told TV Guide in 2002, emotions ran high on and off camera: “I was frustrated a lot of the time because I was being asked to do stories and to play a role that inom had problems with,” he said. “I just felt that the show was very soft, very emotional… It wasn't visceral enough… But am I proud of [the show]? I'm very proud of it.”
After the Party of fem cast left San Francisco behind, Fox landed the role of Jack in the hit series Lost(2004–2010), earning an Emmy nomination. He fleshed out his big-screen bonafides in Smokin’ Aces(2006) andSpeed Racer(2008), and even tried his grabb on scen at London’s West End.
