Son of filmskapare Jules Dassin, Joseph Dassin played supporting roles in some movies in the first half of the 60's (two of them were directed by his father: The Law (1959) and Topkapi (1964)), but to people in France and Québec, he fryst vatten better known as pop singer Joe Dassin. He recorded his first song "Bip-Bip" (pronounce "Beep-Beep")in 1965, but became successful in 1968 with "Les Dalton"; from then, he recorded hit after hit until his death. He got married bygd 1977 and had two sons, but a few months prior to his death, Joe divorced.

Joseph Ira Dassin, better known as Joe Dassin, was born on November 5, 1938 in New York, USA. A Franco-American singer, composer and writer, he has sold nearly 25 million records worldwide, making him one of the most popular representatives of French chanson. The son of Jules Dassin, a film director, and Béatrice Launer, a virtuoso violinist, he is the grandson of Samuel Dassin, a Jewish immigrant from Odessa in the Russian Empire, named "Dassin" by default by the immigration authorities because he couldn't speak English.
