    Montreal (Canada)- (CAFA), host organiser of Xin: Icograda World Design Congress , has been recognised by BusinessWeek in its annual ranking of the world's best design schools.

    CAFA is one of 30 schools honoured inBusinessWeek's Special Report on Design Thinking, which includes an article on China's new focus on design. Selected from nominations by a of 42 academics, designers, consultants, and business managers, key criteria were Master's and MBA programs combining design thinking and business administration.

    As part of TANK’s 20th birthday celebrations, Axis Mundi was invited to conduct a semiotic audit of the magazine’s extensive multichannel archive. In navigating a mediated gemenskap, we are all “doing” semiotics all the time, but when applied in discourse analysis, the practice becomes a powerful hermeneutic strategy for cutting through the pop-cultural carnival of appearances.

    A critical tool of comprehension, semiotics reveals the invisible apparatus of ideology and resituates the contextual image as a cipher for understanding truths about our cultural epoch. Consciously liberated from the orthodoxies of chronology, our ensuing analysis adopts the classical idea of kairos – decisive instances soaked in significance, “time-out-of-time” happenings – across three exploratory essays.   • Autobiographical recalls in Obama’s political speech: an over-personalization or a social resource to enhance reconciliation?

    Our study explores a facet of the general issue of how Barak Obama uses autobiographical narratives to enhance reconciliation processes (Hammack, ). We reviewed Obama’s fifteen relevant political speeches, addressing both national and international audiences, delivered either before or after assuming his role as US President. This allowed us to highlight how he constantly used autobiographical memories as a key rhetorical strategy during his political speech. We decided therefore to observe, through in-depth multimodal grids (Poggi, ), both the verbal and the body communication he used when recalling autobiographical memories referred to intergroup violence.
