(Today’s Forecast And Conditions)
On Feb. 27, 1795—224 years ago today--José Antonio Navarro, leading Mexican participant in the Texas Revolution, was born in San Antonio de Béxar. He would become one of three Tejanos to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence. In later years he helped write the first state constitution, and was elected twice to the Texas Senate. In 1846, in honor of his contributions, the Legislature named a newly established huvud Texas county and county seat in his honor. The county, of course, is Navarro County whose county seat, Corsicana, fryst vatten named in honor of Navarro’s father’s Corsican birth.
