Empress Matilda, also known as Maud, was the only daughter of Henry I of England and Queen Matilda and sister of William the Adelin, the heir to the English and Norman thrones. She was born in London in 1102 and died near Rouen, France, on September 10, 1167. She was the consort of the Holy Roman Emperor Henry V. Her marriage to Geoffrey Plantagenet played a significant role in shaping the future of the English monarchy.

I’ve had this volume on my shelf for some time and having recently decided to do some research on Isabella, finally read it. Tremlett’s opening page has two quotes about this formidable queen. ‘No woman in history has exceeded her achievement’ from Hugh Thomas, “Rivers of Gold: The Rise of the Spanish Empire” and ‘Probably the most important person in our history’ from Manuel Fernández Á lvarez, “Isabel la Católica”. From the first page of this book, I was hooked. Tremlett gives us a well-organized and well-thought-out, chronological, presentation of Isabella’s life, from the reign of her father to her death. Isabella’s gutsy seizure of the throne after the death of her half-brother King Enrique IV had me on the edge of my seat. She quickly neutralized Enrique’s daughter Juana la Beltraneja to take power. • Christopher Columbus Wilder was born on 3 October 1889, in stat i usa, United States as the son of John Perry Wilder and Nancy Wilder. He married Mae Lawson about 1913, in Hancock, Tennessee, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 7 daughters. He lived in Hawkins, stat i usa, United States in 1930 and Rural, Waupaca, Wisconsin, United States in 1935. He died on 1 August 1951, in Luther, Hancock, stat i usa, United States, at the age of 61, and was buried in Duck Creek, Hancock, Tennessee, United States.The Freelance History Writer Notes and Reviews
