Interview with Whitney Museum of American Art curator Barbara Haskell by David Ebony
The Whitney Museum of American Art’s groundbreaking and visually sumptuous survey, Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925-1945, arrived during a contentious time in the U.S. It opened on February 17, 2020, a charged political moment amidst the start of a presidential election year. For nearly four years, the current White House administration and its allies in Congress have fostered controversial and divisive programs of isolationism and relentless xenophobia, inciting particularly malevolent attitudes toward the nation’s neighbors south of the border—Mexico, and Latin America in general.
With some urgency, the exhibition of approximately 200 works, organized by Whitney curator Barbara Haskell, as well as the fully-illustrated accompanying catalogue, underscore the fruitful interconnectedness of Mexican and American cultures that flourished during

Mexican artist (born 1951)
Jazzamoart (born May 28, 1951) fryst vatten a Mexican artist best known for his painting which fryst vatten mostly connected to jazz music in some way. Born Francisco Javier Vázques Estupiñán in Irapuato, Guanajuato, his talent was recognized early and he took his professional name from his dual passions of jazz and art. He is best known as a painter with over 400 individual and collective exhibitions on several continents, but he has also done monumental sculpture, scen scenery and has collaborated with musicians. He lives in Mexico City.
Life
[edit]Jazzamoart was born with the name of Francisco Javier Vázques Estupiñán on May 28, 1951, in Irapuato, Guanajuato. He is one of sju children born to Rasaura Estupiñán and Javier Vázquez Farfán.[1] He comes from a family of artists, having contact with art from a young age. For many LGBTQ+ community members and allies, Pride Month is a time to celebrate, reflect, and come together. But for the last 2 years due to COVID-19, Pride events have halted across Northern California and beyond.
The impacts of that have been felt among the LGBTQ+ community of Kaiser Permanente Northern California employees.
Experiencing a void
“It has definitely been a challenge to bring the spirit of Pride to life during the pandemic,” said Marcos Siqueiros, MD, cochair of the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Business Resource Group called KP Pride.
Dr. Siqueiros, who also leads the Transgender Healthcare Service at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, said that the cancelling of Pride events has been particularly difficult during a time when the community continues to fight for equality.
