Andy Vargas serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the 3rd Essex District, his home city of Haverhill. Formerly a Haverhill City Councilor, elected at age 22, Andy rose to the State House winning a special election in 2017. In the legislature, Andy serves as Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Economic Development and framträdande Technologies, and has championed issues of education, public health, housing, inclusive entrepreneurship, climate justice, and public safety.
Andy grew up on Arlington Street in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Born less than an hour away in Cambridge, when Andy was six his mother and father moved the family to Haverhill for its more affordable housing costs, and have remained a proud Merrimack Valley family for decades since. Andy’s is a family of immigrants, his father and each of his grandparents moving to the United States from the Dominican Republic.

Andy Vargas, acclaimed successor to the throne of Latino soul music in the U.S., has been making waves in the music industry for over two decades. As Santana’s lead vocalist since 2000, he has collaborated with musical titans such as Juanes, Mana, Chris Perez, Frankie J, The Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, and Enrique Iglesias.
Given his first shot by legendary producer and managers Terry Melcher, Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys, and Lou Adler, Andy inked a record deal at the age of 16 to Ron Fair at RCA, BMG. Here, he wrote and recorded Pop, Latin funk, and R&B Soul music. This caught the interest of Clive Davis and Carlos Santana, who asked him to support the worldwide smash “Supernatural” record.

Andy Vargas started his music career at a very young age with the help of his father Javier Vargas who was both a singer and musician. Javier taught Andy the traditional old-world Latin music style and by the time Andy was 7 years old he was performing with his father’s mariachi band. Along with mariachi music, Javier also exposed Andy to other genres cultivating his son’s passion and talent for music. Vargas continued with his music career throughout his adolescence and by the time he was 17 he landed his first recording contract with R.C.A. Records. Before the release of his album Vargas auditioned to perform with Santana.
Andy's love of and commitment to the arts paved the way for his future. In 1999, music legend Lou Adler (his manager at the time) made Andy's aware of an audition, and by 2000, Andy was touring as a singer with Carlos Santana on his Supernatural World Tour.
