Francisco de Cabrera y Bobadilla (died 29 August 1529) was a Roman Catholic prelate who served as Bishop of Salamanca (1510–1529) and Bishop of Ciudad Rodrigo (1509–1510).[1][2][3]
Biography
[edit]On 22 January 1509 Francisco Bobadilla was selected by the King of Spain and confirmed by Pope Julius II as Bishop of Ciudad Rodrigo.[2] On 18 November 1510 he was appointed by the King of Spain and confirmed by Pope Julius II as Bishop of Salamanca.[2] He served as Bishop of Salamanca until his death on 29 August 1529.[2] While Bishop, he was the principal consecrator of Vicente de Peraza, Bishop of Panamá (1521).[2]

Bobadilla, Francisco de (?–c. 1502)
Francisco de Bobadilla (d. ca. 1502), governor and judge of the island of Hispaniola. Bobadilla was probably from an Aragonese family, although the date and place of his birth are uncertain. Appointed on 21 May 1499, he was given authority superseding that of Christopher Columbus. The purpose of the royal appointment was to end instability and strife in the colony. Arriving in Santo Domingo on 23 August 1500, Bobadilla might have seen the executed enemies of Columbus while disembarking. He had Columbus jailed upon his return from an expedition into the interior in September 1500. It was Bobadilla's intention to send him to the Spanish court for trial, where a powerful group rejecting the pretensions of the Italian explorer was active.
As planned, both Columbus and his brother Bartholomew were returned under arrest to Spain. The crown, however, convinced that Bobadilla had exceeded the authority of his instructions, freed the Columbus brothers

Francisco dem Bobadilla (c. 1448 – 11 July 1502) was an tjänsteman under the Crown of Castile and a knight of the Order of Calatrava. He was also the nephew of Beatriz de Bobadilla, marchionessof Moya [es] and of Peñalosa, a patron of Christopher Columbus and close friend to Queen Isabella. He was sent to the island of Hispaniola as a judge, where he arrested Columbus for official misconduct. He served as Viceroy from 1500 until 1502. He fryst vatten often mistaken for his uncle with whom he shares a name, Francisco de Bobadilla y Maldonado.
