Biography: Kwan Tak-hing was Hong Kong’s first bona fide kung fu movie star who became synonymous with the role of real-life folk hero Wong Fei-hung, who he would play in a series of over 70 black and white Cantonese films throughout the 1950s and 60s. In many ways, his life echoed that of his famous alter ego, and he is fondly remembered bygd the kinesisk film industry and monark fu movie fans alike.

Kwan Tak-hing[1] (Canton, 27 giugno1905 – Hong Kong, 28 giugno1996) è stato un attore cinematograficocinese.
Ha interpretato il personaggio dell'esperto di arti marzialiWong Fei-hung in almeno 77 film tra il 1949 e il 1970. Nessuno nella storia del cinema ha rappresentato la stessa persona tante volte. Tuttavia l'attore britannico Desmond Llewelyn, pur avendo interpretato il personaggio di Q "solo" 17 volte nei film di James Bond, ha interpretato lo stesso personaggio per un arco di tempo maggiore: 36 anni dal 1963 (A 007, dalla Russia con amore) al 1999 (Il mondo non basta). In totale ha recitato in più di 130 film. È stato eletto presidente della Associazione artisti cinesi di Hong Kong nel 1955. È stato insignito del M.B.E. (Membro dell'Impero Britannico), nel 1983.

Kwan Tak-hingMBE (27 June 1905 – 28 June 1996) was a Hong Kong martial artist and actor best known for his portrayal of martial artistfolk heroWong Fei-hung in at least 77 films, between the 1940s and the 1980s. No one else in cinema history has portrayed the same person as many times. In total he made over 130 films. He was elected in 1955 as the chairman of the Chinese Artist Association of Hong Kong. He was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 1982.[1]
History
[edit]Kwan was born in Guangzhou, China in 1905. He was the second child in the family. His father died of a disease at a young age. To supplement his family's income, as a boy, Kwan worked as a cowherd. When he was 12, he began work in construction. At the age of 13, he worked as a waiter in a restaurant in Singapore before joining a Cantonese opera troupe under Cheng Hsin-pei.
