  • Atlanta is a bustling entertainment hub, quickly catching up with New York’s and Los Angeles’ industries. Atlanta’s music industry is characterized as a highlight of this success, with many musicians and artists expanding both nationally and internationally, cultivating longevity within their careers. However, for an artist to reach this level in their career, behind-the-scenes work is of the utmost importance. We got the opportunity to speak with Moraima “Mo” Ivory and expand on what it takes to be successful in this ever-growing industry.

    Ivory was introduced to the music business and the work behind it while interning at Virgin Records during her undergraduate years at Spelman College, which grew her interest in entertainment lag. After graduating from Temple University School of lag, she went on to work as a radio host for WHUR 96.3 in Washington, D.C. nära Howard University and was then offered a job at Howard teaching entertainment law.     Moraima “Mo” Ivory, C’91

    Mo Ivory is an accomplished attorney, law professor and the director of the Center for Entertainment, Sports and IP Law at Georgia State University College of Law. She is set to begin her tenure as Commissioner for Fulton County’s District 4 in January 2025. Ivory is deeply committed to community progress and engagement. She leverages her extensive knowledge in politics, law and media to foster informed dialogue and empower citizens.

    Her media career includes hosting prominent radio shows on Atlanta’s V-103FM and 1380AM WAOK and providing political and legal commentary on major networks like CNN, HLN, MSNBC, and TVOne.

    Ivory has also been a frequent contributor to Fox 5 Atlanta's "Georgia Gang." With

    Ivory, a long-time attorney who hosted her own show on talk station WAOK and worked for a time with V-103's morning show when Ryan Cameron hosted, said she ran into the law school dean Wendy F. Hensel at a lawyer education class in March. They talked. Ivory ended up with the job in May. "That's how all my opportunities in my life happen," she said. "Just be prepared for the moment!"

    They are hosting a day-long legal conference Saturday, October 13 to teach legal basics for entertainers, athletes and others in the entertainment world. (You can register here.)

    Among the participants: Atlanta Falcons president Rich McKay, "The Walking Dead" executive producer Tom Luse, her former radio co-host Frank Ski  (who she worked with in D.C.) and rap legend and actor Ludacris.

    Ivory said it wasn’t difficult to convince Ludacris to show up. “He’s a very scholarly artist,” she said. “He’s very smart. He attended Georgia State before he became an artist. He was very amenable.”
